One of the Oakville parks benefiting from the RInC grant is Bronte Athletic Park, the town's only multi-use sports field. The town, in consultation with local sports groups and the public, has proposed to replace the existing natural turf field with an artificial multi-purpose lined field which would accommodate football, soccer and field hockey.
The project is currently broken into two phases. Phase one will include retrofitting the existing field with artificial turf and replacing the bleachers, benches and fencing. Phase one will commence in the winter of 2009 and be completed by July, 2010. Phase one is primarily funded by the RInC grant.
Phase two includes increasing the capacity of the parking lot (to support the new field) with potential removal of the existing ball diamond. This phase also includes enhanced landscaping along the Lakeshore Road at the frontage of both Donovan Bailey Park and Bronte Athletic Park. Finally, trails within the park will be connected to Lakeshore Road. Phase two is future work and is subject to council and budget approval. Phase two will be funded primarily by the Town of Oakville.
