Building Services Department

The Building Services department is responsible for administering the Ontario Building Code Act, Committee of Adjustment and the town's Zoning By-law. Click on the links below and on the left-hand side for more information.

Residential Guide to Building Non-Residential Guide to Building Permit Process and Applications

Staff can help you by:
  • Reviewing building permit applications in accordance with the Ontario Building Code (OBC)
  • Issuing building permits
  • Providing inspections for all new or renovated buildings
  • Processing applications for minor variances to the zoning by-law, consent and variance to the fence by-law

The Building Services department is supported solely from the revenues generated by building permit fees and is provincially mandated to implement the requirements of Bill 124 as it amends the Building Code Act. The new regulations require Building Services staff to issue permits within mandated time frames, perform mandated inspections and be certified to provincial standards. Changes to OBC came into effect on July 1, 2005. Visit the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing for details.
