Bronte Quadrangle

The Bronte Quadrangle is a block of land that is formed by Bronte Road, Marine Drive, Ontario Street and Jones Street The block is adjacent to both the Twelve Mile Creek and Lake Ontario, and is at the southerly end of the Bronte Commercial Area. In July 2004, a public process was initiated by the Planning Department to determine what makes Bronte special and what type of land uses would community stakeholders' view as most appropriate for the redevelopment of the Quadrangle lands.

Information regarding the public meetings and specific planning documents relating to Bronte and the Quadrangle is available below.

Status - On February 27, 2006 Council denied in its entirety the revised Bronte Quadrangle design proposal filed on behalf of Cityzen Developments/Birchgrove Estates (see news release).  Now at the Ontario Municipal Board, the applicant is seeking approval for 253 residential units in a 6 and 12 storey apartment building, 7 townhouse units and 710 sq. m of commercial space.  This proposal would require the relocation of two historical buildings (Glendella House/Art Gallery) and does not include the town-owned lands at the corner of Bronte Road and Ontario Street.

The Ontario Municipal Board has scheduled a second pre-hearing conference on May 8, 2006 beginning at 10 a.m. in the Trafalgar Room and has scheduled a six week hearing commencing on Tuesday July 4, 2006 at 10 a.m. in the Trafalgar Room.
