March Break Camps

March Break registration opened January 1 and programs can be found in the Spring/Summer Parks, Recreation and Culture Program Guide!

The Recreation and Culture department offers March Break programs to suit any taste: arts, adventure, athletics and more! Choose a week-long camp or mix it up with a day-by-day program. Extended care hours are also available.

Special Needs One-on-One Support

If your child requires one-on-one support for one of our March Break programs, please contact Jennifer McPetrie at 905-845-6601, ext. 3624 to determine what support is available. Families are welcome to provide their own support worker if the one-on-one support program is full. Participants must be within the age range of the program.

NEW! March Break swimming lessons at Centennial Pool!

Looking to get some swimming lessons in before the spring session starts? Centennial Pool has now added March Break swimming lessons that will run from Monday through Friday at the same time every day. A great way to keep the kids active and having fun while learning a valuable life skill!

Adventure Camps - Beetle Bugs, Bonanza, Break Out and more!

Beetle Bugs, Bonanza, and Break Out

The extremely popular Beetle Bugs (ages 4-5), Bonanza (ages 6-9), and Break Out (ages 10-13) camps will be back at Glen Abbey Community Centre. Before- and After-Care is also available at this location for an additional fee (separate registration is required). Pick and choose your days or register for all five!

General permission for off-ground activities and additional waivers are required for select trips as noted.

Scheduled activities and onsite guests are subject to change.

Beetle Bugs

This full-day program will suit any young child (ages 4-5) who loves to play, meet friends and have fun. Theme days, cool crafts, games and special guests will add to the program. Join this program for the full day and let your imagination take you away!

Let us help you ‘break out’ to all the spots you want to get to this March Break! Pack a lunch, snack and drink every day but Friday! Start your day at Glen Abbey Community Centre, then get ready to go on a fun adventure!

Before- and After-Care

Before- and After-Care is available to participants of the March Break programs at Glen Abbey Community Centre for an additional fee. Separate registration is required. Extended supervision is from 7:30-8:30 a.m. and 4:30-6 p.m.

March Break Mix

March Break Mix (ages 7-10) is a week-long program of some of your favourite themes and activities at Iroquois Ridge Community Centre. We will mix it up with a different activity every morning, plus an afternoon swim every day!

Before- and After-Care is available at Iroquois Ridge Community Centre for an extra fee. Extended supervision is from 7:30-8:30 a.m. and 4:30-6 p.m. Separate registration is required.

March Break Sizzlers - NEW

Join us a week full of engaging activities in a positive and safe setting at QEPCCC! Enjoy theme days and activities, an offsite trip or special guest, sports, games, arts and crafts and more! Pizza lunch will be provided on the last day of camp. Four age groups are offered:

Before-and After-Care is available at QEPCCC for an additional fee. Separate registration is required.

Youth Out Trip!

Check this out! Enjoy Laser Tag, Go Karting, Archery Tag, Escape Room or the movies on a Youth Out Trip (ages 11-18)! All this plus a Youth Centre experience. Lunch will be provided. This program is offered:

  • Wednesday, March 15 at Notthinghill Youth Centre, and
  • Friday, March 17 at QEPCCC Youth Centre

Hockey camps at River Oaks Community Centre

These week-long programs at River Oaks Community Centre are ideal for the new player or the novice hockey star! A chance to learn new skills and improve on others, this camp provides 90 minutes of on-ice instruction and a different sport to try each day. Combine this with off-ice training and you have the complete package!

Three age groups are offered: Tyke (ages 6-7), Junior (ages 8-9) and Senior (ages 10-12). Depending on registration, age groups may be combined.

This is not a learn-to-skate program; campers should be able to skate to get the most out of this camp. Full hockey equipment required.

Do you want to be a Goalie for a Day?

We provide goalie equipment, campers can try this unique position. Goalie sign-up will be on the first day of camp.

Before- and After-Care

Before- and After-Care is available 7:30-8:30 a.m.and 4:30 to 6 p.m. for an additional fee. Separate registration required. Ages may be combined based on registration. Staff is HIGH FIVE certified!

Oakville Museum programs

Explore, discover and create at your community museum this March Break! Participants (ages 6-10) will take inspiration from the historical collection at the Oakville Museum as we explore the world of decorative arts. Discover a variety of traditional techniques and build your artistic skills. Challenge yourself to create a masterpiece at the museum!

  • Prehistoric Pictures – Use your imagination to construct cave paintings and rock sculptures to explore art before history!
  • Real Life! – Get in touch with reality and capture natural beauty in your paintings! Explore the Oakville Museum’s collection of landscape art and portraits for inspiration.
  • Classical Creativity! – Rewind time and discover manuscripts, master painters, and mosaics at our Renaissance art fair.
  • Impressionism – Capture a moment in time through your artwork and paint like the Impressionists using colour and light.
  • Modern Art – From Van Gogh to Andy Warhol, experiment with different techniques and materials to create modern works of art.

Museum March Break – After-Care

Supervised extended after-care is offered at Oakville Museum from 4 to 5 p.m. for $10 each day. Separate registration is required.

Specialty programs

Babysitter Training [C]

Looking to get into the ‘babysitting’ business? Do you know what to do when you’re home alone? Babysitter Training [C] (ages 11-14) is offered Monday, March 13, or Friday, March 17, at Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre (QEPCCC).

Staff of Safety on Site (SOS) teach the program. Cost includes instruction, manual and certificate. Please bring along a lunch, drink, snack, pen and paper, and a LARGE DOLL/TEDDY BEAR to practice on. No peanuts or nut products please!

Cyber Smarts [C]

Participants in Cyber Smarts [C] (ages 11-14) explore the many benefits of digital technology while learning how to maintain a positive digital footprint and projecting yourself online! Staff from Safety on Site (SOS) will share tips about online gaming, text messaging, privacy settings, identity theft, and more! Offered Thursday, March 16 at QEPCCC.

Home Alone [C]

Empower children (ages 9-12) with the confidence and skills to take care of themselves when they are Home Alone [C]. Taught by the staff of SOS-Safety on Site, this program includes Red Cross PeopleSavers Level 4, internet safety, and strategies for handling the unexpected. Offered on Monday, March 13 or Friday, March 17, at QEPCCC.

Lights Camera Action Educate Camp - Film Making [C]

Lights Camera Action Educate Camp - Film Making [C] (ages 9-12) is a week-long camp at Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts!

Are you the next big movie star or director? Learn about the magic of movie making while filming live on location! While using our cameras, tripods and Macbooks, create the next big blockbuster and be the talk of the town!

Learn how to use angles to tell your story and to record your tale on a storyboard with the specialist from Lights Camera Action Educate [C]. After filming, learn to edit, add sound effects, voices, music and special effects. When it's finished, you'll take your film home on DVD to share with all of your fans!

March Break Spa Day [C]

Participants will learn the basics of nail care, including how to do manicures and pedicures, and proper skin care from a registered esthetician. Includes a pizza lunch, games and a loot bag of fun spa supplies!

The March Break Spa Day Workshop (ages 10-16) will be held at QEPCCC on Tuesday, March 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

March Break at the Q! Join us for full-day, studio art workshops led by professional artist instructors!

March Break Studio Programs Before- and After-Care

March Break Studio Programs Before- and After-Care (ages 4-12) is offered from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and from 4:30 to 6 p.m. for an additional fee. Separate registration is required.

Muses and Masters

Develop new skills, explore new techniques and try different art materials as you creatively spend your March Break discovering the specialized art studios at QEPCCC. Register for just one day or all five! Materials fees are extra.

Muses (ages 4-7) will participate in the following activities:

  • Monday – Canadian Landscapes
  • Tuesday – Movement and Markmaking
  • Wednesday – Art Around the World
  • Thursday – Imaginary Worlds
  • Friday – Puppets and Props

Masters (ages 8-12) will participate in the following activities:

  • Monday – Zine Zone
  • Tuesday – Wood Wonders
  • Wednesday – Multiples from a Matrix
  • Thursday – Squishy Sculpture
  • Friday – Record a Cover Song

Masters Wood and Water

A day for inspired woodworkers (ages 10-12) who are also looking for action-packed fun in a pool! Led by a woodworker and using hand tools, learn how to design and craft a one-of-a-kind small scale wood boat in QEPCCC’s specialized Woodshop. The adventure will continue in the afternoon with aquatic staff in the QEPCCC pool, where you will enjoy a swim and launch your boat! Participants in Masters Wood and Water must be able to swim 25 metres.

Half-Day March Break Studio Art Workshops at QEPCCC

More Than Mudpies (ages 7-12) is a half-day studio art workshop at QEPCCC. Register for one day or all three in the Ceramic Studio, 9:30 a.m.-noon, where you’ll get to personalize your own wonderful clay creations!

  • Tuesday – Cupcake Containers
  • Thursday – Superhero Mugs
  • Friday – Safari Animals

Clay pieces can take up to three weeks to be finished; you will not take it home the day of the workshop, but we will give you a call when it is finished! Dress for mess!

March Break Drop-in Clay for All Ages

Drop in to QEPCCC and muck around for fun! Whether you’re a novice, a pro, or just curious about clay, the studio technician will be available for assistance and to lead basic hand-building demonstrations. No wheel work during this session. Join us:

  • March 14 and 16, 1-4 p.m., in the Ceramic Studio
  • March 11 and 18, 2-5 p.m., in Studio 1

Admission is just $8 per participant and if you want to keep your creation it’s $5 for clay (clay fee includes firing and glazing).

Children must be accompanied by an adult. Clay pieces take up to three weeks to be finished; you will not take it home the day of the drop-in. Spaces are limited. First-come, first-served.
