Oakville's State of the Environment Report (SOER)
As part of our Environmental Strategic Plan (ESP), the Town of Oakville has implemented an environmental reporting program based on indicators, developed with the town's former ESP Advisory Committee.
The State of the Environment Report (SOER) is presented to Council annually and provides a summary of key environmental indicators of interest to the public, along with useful tips and suggestions for making a positive impact on our environment.
Some of the indicators are focused on specific programs such as the amount of waste recycled or the number of trees planted by volunteers, while others look at broader issues such as water and air quality. This information is useful to the town in helping track the progress made and better understand the impacts of our actions and policies. This information can also be helpful for residents, businesses, students and educators.
The town has been reporting this information since 2008, although many of the indicators provide information from previous years. The 2014 SOER (pdf, 6.9 MB) was approved by Council on December 22, 2014. In addition, a 2014 report card (pdf 13.7 MB) is also issued that provides information "at a glance".
