Health protection and air quality

The Town of Oakville is committed to improving air quality in the Oakville-Clarkson airshed. Given the concerns residents have raised regarding air quality in Oakville, the town is undertaking a number of new initiatives to protect the health of our community.

After a period of public review and comment, the town passed Health Protection Air Quality By-law 2010-035 (pdf) on February 1, 2010. Click on the Health Protection Air Quality By-law button above for more information.

On September 30, the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) announced it had accepted TransCanada Pipelines' bid to build a 900 megawatt natural gas-fired power generation facility on Ford-owned lands in south-east Oakville, near Royal Windsor and Ford drives.

TransCanada has made a draft Environmental Review Report (ERR) and supporting technical documents available for public review.

As part of the Ontario government's commitment to improve the air quality in the southwest GTA, a one-person task force was assigned in November 2009 to develop an action plan that will build on the Clarkson Airshed Study.

These web pages will be updated regularly to provide the latest information about the town's actions to improve air quality, and information related to the proposed TransCanada power plant.
