OverviewThe character of Bronte Village is unique and reflective of its rich history and its geographic location on Lake Ontario. The commercial area together with the established surrounding neighbourhoods creates a distinct area that benefits the entire Town.
In 2004, Council directed Planning staff to initiate the Bronte Village Revitalization Study (BVRS) in response to community concerns around development pressure and to help increase the vibrancy of the local commercial area in Bronte Village. The purpose of the Study was to formulate a Plan for Bronte Village that created conditions for revitalization and guided future development with input from multiple stakeholders. A changed provincial policy context also needed to be reflected in the planning work.
The first phase of the BVRS was completed in 2005 and involved a series of community workshops to identify a vision for Bronte Village. The study is now complete and The Plan for Bronte Village recommended policies to be included in the Livable Oakville Plan to guide anticipated growth in Bronte Village.
Study Area
The Bronte Village study area is bounded by Lakeshore Road West and Sovereign Street to the north, the Lake Ontario shoreline to the south, East Street to the east, and West River Street to the west.
