What is GIS?
A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computerized mapping system used to store, retrieve, manipulate, query, and report on mapping and related information. We use GIS at the Town in a number of applications including, but not limited to:

- Design and Construction
- Asset Management
- Building Permits and Zoning Issues
- Legal Issues
- Parks and Recreation
- Urban Forestry
- Finance and Property Assessment
- Tourism
- Economic Development
- Transit
- Municipal Elections
- Mapping
GIS is a corporate resource managed by the Town of Oakville Information Systems + Solutions Department. Various departments maintain their respective layers but all data is made available to Town staff for the purpose of detailed analysis or any public inquiry.
