After obtaining your building permit, you will need onsite inspections to ensure that construction proceeds in accordance with the reviewed plans and the Ontario Building Code. An as-built survey will be requested at the pre-backfill stage. You will be required to submit a copy from an Ontario Land Surveyor verifying heights, established grades and setbacks.
When and how to request an inspection
Inspectors need to visit your construction site several times during the course of construction. Your permit documentation includes a checklist of required inspections.
When you request inspections please provide the building permit number, the municipal address, stage of construction, and your name and telephone number. Reviewed permit plans need to be on-site for each inspection. Inspections requested before 3:30 p.m. are generally carried out the following business day.
Request your inspection by contacting 905-338-4220, or by fax at 905-338-4225 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Residential buildings (houses and accessory structures) will require inspections at these Residential Construction Stages (pdf, 200 kB).
An occupancy permit is required for permits applied for after January 1, 2012.
