• Affidavits
  Most sworn statements and declarations may be commissioned at the town Clerk's department during regular business hours. The person requesting the signed document must show government issued ID (such as a valid driver's licence) and is required to sign in the presence of the commissioner.

• Bids and tenders
  The Town of Oakville's competitive bid opportunities are posted on Biddingo.com. This service provides businesses with a "one stop shop" for bid opportunities available from the town, as well as other organizations.

  Visit the Town of Oakville page on Biddingo.com, to complete an online vendor list application, search current bid opportunities and sign up to receive alerts about other opportunities.

• Birth certificate
  If your baby was born in Ontario, you can easily register your child's birth through the ServiceOntario website.

  You can also apply for your child's Social Insurance Number through this site.

• Boards and committees - get involved
  Mayor Rob Burton and Oakville Town Council invite you to apply to serve on a town committee and help make Oakville the most livable town in Canada.

• Broken street lights - file a report
  To report a malfunctioning or broken streetlight, please fill out Oakville Hydro's online form or call 905-825-6354.
   
• Building construction permits
  Many different types of projects require a building permit. Applications must include detailed drawings and enough information to help ensure your project complies with any related laws and by-laws.

• Building demolition permits
  You will need a demolition permit if you plan to demolish any structure greater than 10 square metres or 107 square feet.

• Bus schedules and maps
  Check out the town's bus routes and schedules online and download the full system route map or individual route maps.
   
• Business licences
  The town licenses:
  • trades such as building renovators, HVAC installers, plumbing contracting companies, etc.
  • stationary businesses such as barbers, beauty salons, motor vehicle service related facilities, food shops, public halls, etc.
  • mobile businesses such as refreshment vehicles, taxicabs, limos, etc.
  All business licences are issued annually through the Licensing and By-law Enforcement Services section of the Clerk's department.

• Business properties availability
  Are you looking for available office, industrial or warehouse space, or vacant land in Oakville?

  Search the available sites database on the town's Economic Development website.

  Search results include all building or site specs, infrastructure readiness, lease or sale price and the seller's contact information.

• By-laws database
  Search for any Town of Oakville by-law and related amendments using the online by-law search tool.

  Enter a by-law number, year the by-law was approved, or key words to find the by-law you're looking for.

• Community events calendar - add your event
  Are you or a community organization holding an event in the Town of Oakville?

  Let the community know about your event by posting it on the community event calendar hosted by the Oakville Public Library website. Just click on "add your event" and submit your event details.

  
   
• Certificate of Occupancy

• Death certificate
  For a death occurring in Ontario, you can apply online for a death certificate through the ServiceOntario website. You can also obtain a hard-copy application in person from the Town of Oakville Clerk's department.

  All requests must be forwarded to the Province of Ontario, Office of the Registrar General.

• Development charges
  The annual development charge rate change came into effect on April 1, 2010.

• Divorce certificate
  You can obtain a copy of your divorce certificate by contacting the court office where the divorce was granted.

• Dog licence
  All dogs in the Town of Oakville must be licensed.

  The Oakville and District Humane Society acts as a licensing agent on behalf of the town. Failure to purchase and annually renew your licence could result in a fine.

  You need a permit if you are doing the following:
  • Altering an existing driveway
  • Constructing a new driveway entrance onto a town road
  • Constructing driveway curbs on the road
  • Constructing a second driveway to create a semi-circular driveway

  Gate access
  You must apply for a permit to install and maintain a gate in any fence separating a residential property from a town-owned park.

  Park access
  You must apply for a permit to access a town park for projects such as private pool installation or landscaping.

  Swimming pool enclosures

• Filming/photography permits
  If you plan to do any filming on town property, including streets, you need a filming permit.

  You also need a permit for any commercial or wedding photography on town property.

  Use Explore Oakville to view information about local parks, shopping centres, heritage properties, and nearby bus routes and stops.

  Are you a business operator?
  Use Explore Oakville to get a better understanding about the customers you are trying to attract and market yourself to them accordingly.

  Are you a visitor?
  Use Explore Oakville areas of interest in 3-D. The 3-D view includes the location of restaurants, sports facilities, accommodations, parking, etc.

• Landscaping permit - site alteration
  If you are planning to landscape or excavate your property, you might need a site alteration permit. Depending on your project, you might need other permits.

• Lottery licence - bingos, raffles
  You must apply for a licence through the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario if you want to run lotteries such as bingo games, raffles or Nevada/break open tickets.

• Marriage certificate
  The person who performed your marriage ceremony must forward your completed and signed marriage licence, for which you must apply before your ceremony, to the Province of Ontario, Office of the Registrar General for registration.

  Visit the Oakville Public Library website and click on "My OPL" to sign in and access information about your library account.
   
• Oakville Hydro payment
  Oakville Hydro offers a variety of convenient ways in which you can pay your bill. The Town of Oakville does not process Oakville Hydro payments, but will accept payments and forward them to Hydro.

  There are many situations for which you may need a parking permit including temporary on-street parking for out-of-town guests or construction vehicles, as well as special parking permits for persons with a disability and veterans.

• Property tax assessment
  The property taxes that citizens pay are calculated in proportion to the value of the real estate they own. The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) prepares assessments for all properties in Ontario.

  There are many different ways to pay your property tax bill.

• Recreational program registration (iris)
  Signing up online for your favourite town programs has never been easier. Go to iris online and follow three simple steps.

  You will need a family PIN number and personal ID number (an iris card). If you don't have these numbers, you can request them through the iris site (it will take up to two business days to process your request).

  Once logged in to your account, you can pay for your programs using Amex, MasterCard or Visa.
