Razor Blades Found on Park Playground

Oakville, April 5, 2007 — For Immediate Release
After being contacted by a resident, the Town of Oakville Parks and Open Space staff discovered five razor blades in the mulch material at the base the playground equipment at Munn’s Creek Park. The resident reported finding three razor blades in the playground earlier this week.

The Town has enclosed the playground with temporary fencing and it will remain closed until further notice. The park is located on River Oaks Boulevard West adjacent to River Oaks Public School.

Over the long weekend, Town staff will use a magnetic bar and metal detector to search the playground surface for any additional razor blades. Staff will also ensure the fencing is secure throughout the weekend and will perform daily inspections of the playground all next week.

Staff is also inspecting two neighbouring playgrounds.

Halton Regional Police Service has been contacted and the Town of Oakville is cooperating in their investigation of this incident.

The Town of Oakville is committed to the highest level of safety standards and procedures. We appreciate the public’s cooperation throughout this process.
