This is Councillor Grant's second term on Oakville Town Council.

Having lived in cities across Canada and spending time in different countries, Councillor Grant chose to settle in Oakville in 1995. While in University, he pursued an English major with a minor in film/theatre. Following his education, he supplied newspapers with human-interest stories, connecting people with the issues in their community. A personal highlight of this period was when he was asked by the elders of a Northern Manitoba Reservation to help re-educate their young to respect nature and re-learn their traditional craft.

Councillor Grant then became involved in public relations and advertising. As a copywriter, working his way up through a number of agencies, he became involved with the political life by writing speeches while providing support and planning for politicians at various levels of government including a former premier of Manitoba, Gary Filmon. He helped people of all political stripes, supporting the person rather than their party. After many years he moved on, taking one-year contracts: first as information officer for the CBC based in Winnipeg and then as creative director for an Ottawa design house. Subsequently, he relocated to the GTA to be closer to his family, working as a bartender, bar manager and grocery manager for local establishments to spend more time working on a novel.

Outside his duties on Council, he is a past leader for the 1st Trafalgar Scouts and he contributes to many groups and charities, including the Halton Women's Shelter, Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Red Cross, Oakville World of Threads Festival and the ONE Campaign to end poverty, among others.

Councillor Grant lives in the College Park community with his wife, Tracy, and their two daughters, Carling and Mackenzie. He's still working on that novel.
