The Lot Maintenance By-law deals with minimum standards for the upkeep of the outdoor areas of private property. These regulations cover issues such as long grass, weed control, graffiti, derelict vehicles, feeding wildlife and the removal of waste from the property.
The town’s lot maintenance by-law:
- Requires all property owners to maintain their properties so they are neat and tidy, free of garbage
- Regulates the basic standards for maintenance and aesthetics of exterior of a property in the town
- Grass and weeds cannot exceed 20.33 centimetres (eight inches) in height
- Sets out grass cutting, garbage, wood storage, weed control and material disposal standards
- Requires dead, decayed or damaged trees and branches be removed
- Requires property owners to maintain the adjoining boulevard free and clear of waste, and grass and weeds cannot exceed 20.33 centimetres (eight inches) in height
- Contains regulations for naturalized areas
Non-compliance with the by-law may result in fees and charges under the Administrative Penalty By-law 2021-038.
