Council endorses new Strategic Plan direction

Draft Strategic Plan with actions will be presented to Council June 19, 2023

On May 17, 2023, Town Council endorsed the key elements of a new Strategic Plan being developed to guide Council’s decision making over the next four years, and what the community envisions for its future. The key elements include:

• the town’s new long-term vision: a vibrant and livable community for all;
• mission: serving the community in a responsible, inclusive way, dedicated to building economic, social, and environmental sustainability;
• guiding principles: leadership, inclusivity, excellence, sustainability, quality of life, fiscal responsibility;
• strategic priorities: growth management, community belonging, environmental sustainability and accountable government; and
• objectives under each strategic priority.

The community can share their thoughts on the key elements and what they envision for Oakville by emailing Sarah Lewis from Deloitte at sarlewis@deloitte.ca. Review the staff report from the Council meeting on May 17, 2023, along with a summary of community feedback based on engagement opportunities (including phone and online surveys, open house events in each ward, and consultation with community groups) offered during March and April and an analysis of research compiled through a global scan of municipal trends and a community profile.

Comments received will help inform the full draft of the Council Strategic Plan and 2023-2026 Business Plan, which will include specific actions and initiatives under the endorsed strategic priorities and objectives. This draft will be presented to Council on June 19 and will be open for public comment until the end of June. The final plan will be presented for Council’s approval on July 11, 2023.

• The Council Strategic Plan sets the direction for the Oakville community while the Business Plan helps identify the priorities for Council’s four-year term of office.
• The development of Council’s Strategic Plan and 2023-2026 Business Plan includes input from town staff and leadership, community partners and residents to understand the wants and needs of our community, while intentionally seeking out diverse perspectives.
