Oakville receives federal funding for accessibility improvements to Wedgewood Pool

Renovations begin this fall

Renovations to make Wedgewood Pool more accessible will begin this fall thanks to $100,000 in funding the Town of Oakville received in part from the Government of Canada’s Enabling Accessibility Fund. The purpose of the fund is to make Canadian communities more accessible for persons with disabilities to take part in community activities, programs and services.

Oakville will use the funding to add ramps to the two outdoor showers and install a portable pool lift. The ramps will include handrails and visual contrasting strips.  

In addition to the new accessible features, the 52-year old facility will simultaneously undergo town-funded renovations, including repairs to the pool tank and replacement of the pool liner. To enable all renovations, construction will begin in the fall when the pool is closed for the season after Labour Day. 

Wedgewood Pool, located at 351 Cairncroft Road, was built in 1970, and is one of five outdoor pools in Oakville with 25-metre lanes and a dry slide.
