Town of Oakville and CUPE 1329 ratify new collective agreement for inside workers

On November 6, 2023, Local 1329 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), representing the Town of Oakville’s inside workers, ratified the tentative collective agreement that was reached with the town on Friday, October 27, 2023, and ratified by Oakville Town Council on Monday, October 30, 2023.

The new four-year agreement includes overall wage increases worth 12.75 per cent over four years, a $750 signing bonus payable in 2023 and several benefit enhancements to support employee health and well-being including the introduction of a compassionate care leave salary top-up benefit.

Other key outcomes achieved include significant enhancements to vacation entitlement including vacation service credit for new hires and existing employees, and the addition of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to the list of statutory holidays. There was also clarification on the use of temporary staffing and posting provisions, use of stand-by and hours of work, and new market value adjustment language to assist with recruitment and retention.

The town recognizes and appreciates the efforts of CUPE 1329, the town’s largest bargaining unit, with more than 357 members in various roles. Their contributions are integral to making Oakville a vibrant and livable community for all.
