The Premier of Ontario has declared a province-wide state of emergency and issued a stay-at-home order in response to rising COVID-19 variant infection rates.
As a part of an annual rehabilitation program, the Parks and Open Space Department replaces bridges and stairs which are in need of repair or upgrading. Along with structural replacements, sections of trails and landscaping may be updated or upgraded simultaneously.
Both of the bridges in this site are set too low and cause debris backup and flooding upstream. The North bridge was raised and is now re-opened. The new South bridge will be installed the week of January 25 and will be re-opened to public shortly. Paving and landscape restoration work will occur in spring 2021.
The old wooden bridge was removed. The new steel bridge will be installed the week of January 25 and will be re-opened to public shortly. Paving and landscape restoration work will occur in spring 2021.
There is a large set of stairs in this location, directly off McCraney Street (across from Kirstie Street), and the entire stair structure will be replaced. Work is anticipated to start at the end of January/early February 2021 and be completed in spring 2021.
There is a small set of stairs directly off Miller Drive that will be replaced. Work is anticipated to start the week of January 25, 2021 and be completed in spring 2021.
The existing bridge between Aldercrest Park and Blackthorn Place will be raised up and replaced. The old bridge was removed and the new bridge is anticipated to be installed the at the end of March. Please note that they are manufacturing delays due to the pandemic.
The boardwalk was replaced and it is re-opened.
The existing concrete stairs will be refinished with new handrails. Ornamental features will be refinished. Work at this site is on-going and is expected to be completed in spring 2021.
Work will progress from site to another, and will begin in mid-October and run until spring 2021.
Resilient Consulting has been retained for design work and contract administration. CSL Group Ltd. has been retained as the General Contractor for construction.
