The Premier of Ontario has declared a province-wide state of emergency and issued a stay-at-home order in response to rising COVID-19 variant infection rates.
The Town of Oakville has four community gardens:
Garden plots are usually open between May 1 and October 31 for non-commercial use only. Due to the high demand, the above locations are available to Oakville residents only. To place your name on a waitlist for one of the gardens, register for a garden plot online. All allocations are currently full. Search the Community Gardens map for location details. Accessible planter tables are on site at Memorial Park Gardens.
To ensure that all COVID-19 public health and safety protocols are followed, outlined below is our Community Gardens protocols for 2021. Should you have any questions that are not addressed below, please contact our Support Services team at 905-815-2000 or email@example.com.
In order to manage the number of people accessing our gardens, we have created “pre-registered bookings” for each garden. Garden plot owners are required to book a timeslot based on availability. To ensure everyone has a fair opportunity to book, garden owners can only book timeslots on even or odd numbered days that align with their plot number. For example plot owner number 1 can only register on odd days of the month, while garden plot owner number 2 can only register on even days of the month. This will ensure that physical distancing requirements of two metres/six feet can be maintained at all times.
During the stay-at-home order/grey lockdown level, our community garden capacity is 10 persons, with the exception of our smaller garden at Shell Park Gardens which is limited to 9 persons. If our zone level/restrictions change, we will adjust capacity numbers accordingly.
Registered plot owners will receive a registration link from firstname.lastname@example.org. This link will allow access to select a timeslot on even or odd numbered days that align with plot numbers.
When you register, you are confirming that you will not access the community garden if you have any of the following:
All gardeners are required to keep a minimum of two metres/six feet between themselves and other gardeners.
When you arrive at the garden, a Town of Oakville staff member will reconfirm these questions with you and record your attendance at the garden. Using the online registration tool allows us to do contract tracing if required, and allows us to limit the number of people at the garden based on the capacities outlined by Public Health.
Garden hoses will be disinfected after each gardening timeslot.
Given the limited number of people permitted into the garden at one time, we are restricting access to the community garden to one person per household.
Gardeners are encouraged to wear a non-medical mask while on site.
Register for a garden plot waitlist online. Please note that there are no available garden plots. Current wait times are estimated at four years from the date of submission.
