The Town of Oakville’s vision is to be the most livable town in Canada. We want to ensure Oakville is an inclusive and safe community as well as a place of opportunity for learning, recreation and civic engagement. By measuring the public’s sense of belonging and safety, we gain insight into how well we are doing and if we need to improve our programs, services and local collaborations.
The Town of Oakville began using a citizen survey for gathering resident feedback in 2001. Now conducted every two years by a third-party agency, the last citizen survey was conducted in January and February, 2019 by market research from Pollara Strategic Insights.
Responses were weighted according to ward, age and gender distributions throughout the town to the most recently available census data, with an overall margin of error of ±3.45 per cent, 19 times out of 20. The next citizen survey will be conducted in 2021.
Oakville residents have a strong sense of belonging and safety that has remained remarkably high, over 90 per cent since 2001. In 2019, resident satisfaction was 93 per cent!
