Per cent of Residents Satisfied with the Feeling of Belonging and Being Safe

Why is this important?

The Town of Oakville’s vision is to be the most livable town in Canada. We want to ensure Oakville is an inclusive and safe community as well as a place of opportunity for learning, recreation and civic engagement. By measuring the public’s sense of belonging and safety, we gain insight into how well we are doing and if we need to improve our programs, services and local collaborations.

How is this measured?

The Town of Oakville began using a citizen survey for gathering resident feedback in 2001. Now conducted every two years by a third-party agency, the last citizen survey was conducted in January and February, 2017 by market research from Pollara Strategic Insights.

Responses were weighted according to ward, age and gender distributions throughout the town to the most recently available census data, with an overall margin of error of ±3.45 per cent, 19 times out of 20. The next citizen survey will be conducted in 2019.

What progress are we making?

Oakville residents have a strong sense of belonging and safety that has remained remarkably high, over 90 per cent since 2001. In 2017, we maintained satisfaction from 2015,  a record high of 95 per cent! This positive rating lets us know you continue to value the quality of life in Oakville and that we are making great progress to being the most livable town in Canada.
