In March 2017, Town staff held a public consultation meeting to discuss various topics relating to animal control, licensing, standards of care, protective care and enforcement. Staff presented a report and draft by-law to the Community Services Committee on January 22, 2018 and to Council on January 29, 2018. Council requested staff to amend the proposed by-law and to report back in March 2018.

Interested rescue organizations, foster home owners, pet owners and public are invited to attend the CSC meeting to learn more. The report will be presented to Town Council on April 3, 2018.

The Town of Oakville has contracted the Oakville and Milton Humane Society to enforce a variety of local animal by-laws and provide animal control services in Oakville.

All dogs in the Town of Oakville must be licensed.
The Oakville and Milton Humane Society acts as a licensing agent on behalf of the town. Failure to purchase and annually renew your licence could result in a fine.
Dog licences can be purchased online, or you can download the dog license form and send it in by mail or fax. Visit the Oakville and Milton Humane Society website for more information.
