Gairloch Gardens and Vista Promenade Shoreline Improvements

Building a better shoreline

The town of Oakville has initiated as study to assess shoreline protection needs at two lakefront parks; Gairloch Gardens and Vista Promenade.  Gairloch Garden is located at Lakeshore Road, east of Morrison Road.  Vista Promenade is located east of the Bronte Outer Habour Marina at East Street.   At both locations there is existing shoreline protection that have starting to deteriorate. Rehabilitation options for the shoreline could include the following or a combination of the following:

  • Do nothing;
  • Use of armour stone/rip rap or bioengineering;
  • Lake infilling (e.g. ‘groynes’ which are walls that jet out from the shoreline, providing erosion protection)
  • Shoreline reconstruction;
  • Other sound and environmentally sensitive engineering solutions of an innovative nature.

Each option will be carefully evaluated based on a set criteria to achieve an overall benefit for the shoreline and neighbouring lands, while also taking into account cost and construction feasibility.

Have your say!

The Town of Oakville is committed to providing the public an opportunity to give their input and advice throughout the study process. As the study gets underway, an open house will take place where you can learn about the projects in more detail and of course, have your say! Please visit back soon for more information on the first open house or contact Diana Friesen if you which to be put on the project mailing list.
