Camp Molly will offer a chance for 24 young women aged 15 to 18 years to learn what it’s like to have a career in the fire services – beyond fire suppression.

Welcome to Camp Molly!

This camp will provide young women who may not have considered the possibility of pursuing a career in the fire services with an introduction into various career opportunities available, including:

  • Fire suppression
  • Training
  • Communications
  • Fire prevention
  • Fire investigations
  • Public education
  • Public information and media relations
  • Fire Code enforcement

Camp Molly is named after Molly Williams, the first recorded female firefighter in North America. Visit the International Association of Women in Fire and Emergency Services website to learn more about the history of women in firefighting.

Participants will also have an opportunity to perform many firefighting tasks, including:

  • Basic firefighting skills
  • Catching fire hydrants
  • Managing hose lines
  • Live fire demonstrations
  • Personal protective equipment orientation
  • Use of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
  • Search and rescue operations
  • Auto extrication rescues
  • Use of aerial and ground ladders
  • Forcible entry procedures
  • Go water rescue
  • Combat challenge competition

Are you ready to attend Camp Molly?

To qualify, you must be:

  • 15 to 18 years old
  • currently attending a high school in the Region of Halton (Oakville, Milton, Halton Hills or Burlington)
  • in good physical condition and have a positive attitude
  • in possession of a valid provincial health card
  • able to supply your own CSA safety footwear (all other personal protective equipment will be supplied to the participants)
  • able to provide you own transportation to and from the Oakville Fire Department Training Campus for Emergency Excellence (1144 South Service Road West)
  • committed to attend all Camp Molly activities from May 9 to 12 inclusive

Parents/guardians of applicants will be asked to confirm that they are aware of the camp requirements as outlined in the following three documents:

Six applicants from each municipality for a total of 24 participants will be chosen to take part in Camp Molly 2019.
