Plans to revitalize Oakville's historic downtown took another step forward when Council approved the design concept for Towne Square last night, a small but unique public space located at 210 Lakeshore Road. Building on the work done on the Lakeshore Road Reconstruction project, a new design for Towne Square will enhance the vibrancy of the neighbourhood and provide more opportunities for public events. Construction of the Towne Square redevelopment will begin this fall.
“Towne Square is over 30 years old and with the reconstruction of Lakeshore Road it was the perfect time to refresh this important gathering place for our community,” said Mayor Rob Burton. “Thanks to public input we have a design for Towne Square that truly reflects the character of our downtown and the needs and wants of both businesses and residents.”
Community input has been vital throughout the Towne Square Redevelopment Project. After extensive public and stakeholder consultation both in-person and on-line on different options, the final preferred concept “Turning Leaves” presented to Council.
