The Town of Oakville has completed the Munn’s Creek Flood Mitigation Opportunities Study (Upper Middle Road to the Morrison Wedgewood Diversion Channel) and the project file is now available for public review. The purpose of the study was to assess impacts from riverine flooding, assess the potential risks, and develop mitigation options. Please note that the Munn’s Creek Stabilization and Rehabilitation Study, dealing with issues related to creek erosion is still ongoing.
The recommended solution to reduce flood risk within the study area includes the replacement of existing culvert crossings with larger span structures, once the culverts have reached their end of service life.
The structures recommended for upgrades include:
The recommended culvert upgrades will also be designed to improve fish habitat and wildlife passage and enhance the ecological function of the Munn’s Creek corridor.
The study was carried out in accordance with the requirements as described in the Municipal Engineers Association’s Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) document (October 2000, as amended in 2015), which is approved under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act. The Class EA process included consultation with regulatory agencies, stakeholders and the public, including two Public Information Centres that were held during the study. The recommended solution incorporates public, local municipal and agency comments received during the course of the study.
The project file has been prepared to document the planning and decision-making process for this study. By this notice, the project file is being placed on the public record for a 30 day review period from and including October 3 to November 1, 2019 on the town’s Flood Mitigation Opportunities Study for Munn's Creek page and at the following location:
