As the province begins to gradually ease restrictions on January 31, 2022, the Town of Oakville is ready to welcome residents back to our facilities with health and safety measures in place.
The Corporation of the Town of Oakville (town) acknowledges the need to strike a balance between the town’s responsibility to promote a safe and secure environment and to protect the privacy of individuals. The town supports the use of video surveillance technology to promote public and employee safety and to maintain the security of the town’s assets and property in accordance with established standards and procedures.
The purpose of this policy is to ensure that video surveillance technology is used only for the administration of the town’s lawful duties/activities and conducted in a manner that is in accordance with the provisions of the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) and other relevant legislation. This policy and associated procedures will assist town departments that have identified an appropriate use for video surveillance technology in a manner that complies with MFIPPA, all other relevant legislation and records management requirements.
This policy applies to video surveillance at all town facilities, properties and assets, employees and members of the public. This policy does not apply to videotaping or audio taping of Council and Committee meetings, theatre productions or any covert surveillance that may be used for law enforcement purposes.
