At Monday night’s Council meeting Mayor Rob Burton and Members of Council congratulated Oakville’s James Hinchcliffe on his first IZOD IndyCar Series win at the 2013 season opener in St. Petersburg, Florida. He is the 207th driver to win an Indy car race, and the first Canadian to win an Indy car race since Paul Tracy of Toronto won in 2007 in the CART series at Cleveland.
“Oakville and Canadians everywhere are very proud of James’ dramatic win. His hard work, intensive training, and perseverance to succeed are an inspiration to all of us. We wish him all the best and look forward to celebrating more Indy victories with him,” said Mayor Rob Burton.
Hinchcliffe’s win on Sunday means that his name will be added to the Wheldon Monument at Turn 10 of the St. Petersburg Street Circuit. The monument honours the late Dan Wheldon, who died in a 15-car pile-up in the 2011 IndyCar season finale in Las Vegas.
