Oakville Mayor Rob Burton has declared November 29, 2016 “Giving Tuesday” in the Town of Oakville.
Immediately following Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is a national movement intended as a “kickoff for the giving season,” in which charities, companies and individuals are encouraged to rally for causes important to them.
“There are over a hundred charities in Oakville, all doing critical work to improve livability for everyone in our community,” said Mayor Burton. “Giving Tuesday is a great opportunity for Oakville residents to support the causes near and dear to them.”
Giving Tuesday this year is organized by OakvilleGives, a campaign comprised of over 20 local charities and non-profits operating in Oakville and the Halton Region. Mayor Burton serves as the honourary chair of the 2016 OakvilleGives campaign.
“The holiday season is a critical time for many local charities, just as it is for small businesses across Oakville,” said Burton. “Council encourages everyone to use Giving Tuesday to learn more about the charities working to improve livability in their community, and support those charities however they can.”
