Municipal leaders from across the country are gathering in Oakville for the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) quarterly Board of Directors meeting.
The four-day meeting brings together nearly 100 municipal leaders from across the country to discuss national issues. Key issues being discussed at the upcoming FCM meeting include the second phase of the federal government’s infrastructure plan, as well as the affordable housing crisis.
“It is essential that local leaders from across the country have a unified voice in Ottawa,” said Oakville Mayor Rob Burton. “That unified voice helped make infrastructure and growth key issues on the national stage, and I’m pleased to see the FCM continue discussing them right here in our back yard.”
In the most recent board election, Halton regional councillor Clark Somerville was named FCM President. To honour Halton Region as the host, the FCM Board of Directors – along with Tree Canada – have organized a tree-planting ceremony in Oakville.
