Oakville residents and business owners are invited to dream as the Town of Oakville launches the Downtown Plan — one of the most creative, inclusive and compelling projects in Oakville — this Thursday, December 5, 2013.
“This is a very exciting time for Oakville,” Mayor Rob Burton said. “Our downtown is a thriving, vibrant, cultural, commercial and residential area and Council and I want to ensure it remains that way. Every resident and business person has a role to play in this plan; public engagement will be critical to its success and I invite you to join us at the launch.”
The Downtown Plan — Time to Dream — launch will set the stage for intensive community engagement for the next six months on two major studies: the Downtown Cultural Hub Study and the Downtown Transportation and Streetscape Study. As part of the launch, an expert guest panel discussion will focus on how culture, urban design, accessibility and commerce can enhance, transform and elevate a community to new heights.
The Downtown Cultural Hub Study will explore opportunities to create a downtown cultural and performing arts space including: a performing arts centre, art gallery, library, outdoor program space, and digital space that will become the cultural, social, and economic heart of our community.
The Downtown Transportation and Streetscape Study will improve downtown streets, pedestrian and cycle ways, and the Towne Square by introducing a cohesive look and feel, while increasing connectivity, mobility and accessibility.
Over the next several months the Town of Oakville will engage the business community and residents, and together, we can continue to build a community that embraces culture, supports beautiful streets, strengthens commerce, and encourages each of us to make a difference for the town and in each other’s lives.
The Downtown Plan inspires us to believe, connects us to people and places, and protects the past while providing for the future. The Downtown Plan launch will be held at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, 7 p.m. RSVP today at 905-845-6601, ext. 7529, or email firstname.lastname@example.org
