Oakville Transit monthly bus passes now available on PRESTO!

Tue, 16 Sep 2014

Same savings, new way to pay!

Oakville Transit riders now have an easier, more convenient way to buy a monthly bus pass — load it on a PRESTO card! Starting this week, adult, student and senior monthly passes will be available through the PRESTO website or at an authorized agent in Oakville.

“Council is committed to continuing to build a public transit system that is a safe, accessible, and affordable method of travel,” Mayor Rob Burton said. “The addition of the monthly PRESTO bus pass is clearly an added convenience for riders.”

The following monthly passes can now be loaded on a PRESTO card:

  • Adult monthly pass – $105
  • Student monthly pass – $70
  • Senior monthly pass – $50

“This is a great way for regular riders to try PRESTO as a convenient way to pay for a monthly pass,” said Barry Cole, director of Oakville Transit. “Eventually all fares will be available on PRESTO when we phase out our remaining paper fares in 2015.”

Paper monthly passes, including the special Student Freedom Pass, will continue to be sold at ticket agents across Oakville until further notice. Care-A-van users will still require a paper pass as not all vehicles used to provide specialized transit services are equipped with PRESTO devices at this time.

A new PRESTO card cost $6 and can be purchased, loaded and reloaded on the PRESTO website or at an authorized PRESTO agent. Students and seniors can order a card online, but must program the new card at an authorized agent to ensure it is set up properly for the discounted fare. For single ride use, a minimum value of $10 must be added to the card at the time of purchase. When loading a card for monthly pass use, the full amount must be loaded before the start of any calendar month.

Monthly passes can be loaded on a PRESTO card online or at one of the following locations:

  • Oakville Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Road
  • Oakville Transit office, 430 Wyecroft Road
  • River Oaks Community Centre, 2400 Sixth Line
  • Iroquois Ridge Library, 1051 Glenashton Drive
  • Glen Abbey Library, 1415 Third Line
  • Central Library, 120 Navy Street
  • Woodside Library, 1274 Rebecca Street

Monthly bus passes cannot be loaded on a PRESTO card at GO Transit stations.
