Oakville residents invited to annual ‘Make Your Move’ Family Day 2015

Wed, 11 Feb 2015

Hundreds of free family-friendly activities and events planned at 12 locations across Oakville

The best thing about memories is making them! Build your Family Day tradition with the Town of Oakville on Monday, February 16, 2015. The town’s seventh annual Family Day celebration promises tons of free family-friendly activities and events for all ages and abilities.

“A key part of Oakville’s livability is our wide variety of settings that bring people together,” said Mayor Rob Burton. “Family Day provides an opportunity to highlight many of the town’s wonderful recreation, arts and cultural activities. I encourage everyone to come out, join in the fun and make some great memories together.”

Participants can take part in a variety of classes including family-style Boot Camp, Basketball and Yoga, or discover Oakville fossils at the Oakville Museum. Families can also enjoy Storytime at select Oakville Public Library branches; get their picture taken on a Zamboni at River Oaks and Glen Abbey community centres; or watch The Last Polar Bears performed by Rag and Bone Puppet Theatre at Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre (QEPCCC). With the support of Tim Hortons, the town will also offer free swimming and ice time at participating pools and arenas. Visit the Family Day page for a full schedule of events.

“Our Family Day activities focus on the many benefits of leading healthy and active lifestyles and encouraging residents to take part in sports and recreational activities all year-round,” said Nina de Vaal, director of Recreation and Culture for the Town of Oakville. “There’s guaranteed to be something for everyone.”

A Maple Lodge Farms barbecue, Domino’s Pizza lunch, and Pepsico drinks will be available for purchase from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Glen Abbey and River Oaks community centres. Domino’s Pizza and drinks supplied by Pepsico and Whole Foods will be available for purchase from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Iroquois Ridge Community Centre. Domino’s Pizza and Pepsico drinks will be available for purchase from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at QEPCCC. Frankie Fettuccine and Mighty Cob food trucks will also be onsite at QEPCCC.
