Nottinghill Youth Centre now open in Glen Abbey

Wed, 20 Apr 2016

Celebrate National Youth Week, May 1-7, 2016 with free events and activities

Young people in Oakville have a new place to celebrate National Youth Week from May 1 to 7, 2016, with the recent opening of Nottinghill Youth Centre in Glen Abbey.

Located at 1131 Nottinghill Gate, the modern youth centre is a fully accessible, supervised and safe environment that welcomes Oakville youth aged 13 to 18 Tuesday to Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 3 to 10 p.m.

One of three town-managed youth centres in Oakville, Nottinghill Youth Centre offers a variety of free activities and services including: computers and iPads with WiFi, video games, onsite library, pool and foosball tables, movie nights, homework help, resume writing and job search resources, and opportunities to earn volunteer hours.

“Oakville’s youth centres play a vital role in contributing to a community where young people feel a sense of belonging,” said Mayor Rob Burton. “We’re very pleased to open a welcoming space in Glen Abbey that has so many great free resources to offer.”

The Nottinghill, Bronte and Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre (QEPCCC) youth centres are among facilities in Oakville hosting free Youth Week activities for ages 12 to 18. Highlights include a skateboarding competition, art, camp fire and career nights, Gadfly Dance Battle, and the annual talent show. Visit active.oakville.ca or follow Oakville Youth on Facebook and Twitter for daily activities and locations.

Throughout Youth Week, youth can also enjoy free access to all Town of Oakville drop-in swimming, skating, sports and fitness (ages 14+), open gym times, and fitness centres (ages 14+), as well as amenities and activities at the YMCA of Oakville.

Youth who need transportation assistance to get to and from Youth Week events can pick up free Oakville Transit tickets at any youth centre.

The Town of Oakville is recognized by Play Works as a Youth-Friendly Community for its outstanding commitment to providing young people with opportunities to play, participate in and contribute to their community. Play Works is an independent group of organizations committed to encouraging and promoting a greater investment in youth play.
