Monique Belair has been appointed deputy fire chief for the Oakville Fire department. She begins her new role on Tuesday, October 31, 2017.
Ms. Belair is an accomplished fire professional with more than 30 years of experience in fire service. Most recently, Ms. Belair served as deputy fire chief with the City of St. Catharines where she was responsible for the Communications, Training and Fire Prevention divisions. She was also involved in strategic planning, risk management and analysis as well as emergency management and planning.
“On behalf of Council, I’d like to welcome Ms. Belair to the Town of Oakville. As a skilled and knowledgeable leader with extensive experience in fire service, she will certainly serve our community well and we look forward to working with her,” said Mayor Rob Burton.
Ms. Belair’s career has also included positions with the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management including fire program specialist, issues management program specialist and operations manager. She is a former fire marshal for the Toronto General Hospital and former fire marshal and fire prevention officer for the Barrie Fire and Emergency Services. In addition, Ms. Belair served as a firefighter in the Canadian Armed Forces.
As one of three deputy fire chiefs with the Oakville Fire department, Ms. Belair will oversee the Training and Fire Prevention divisions and assist with the development of business plans and budgets that support the town’s strategic directions. She will also be responsible for developing and delivering departmental policies and programs.
Fire and rescue services in Oakville are delivered by more than 200 full-time personnel. The Oakville Fire department is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to ensure the safety of Oakville residents and visitors. The Oakville Fire department operates from eight station locations as well as the Oakville Training Campus for Emergency Excellence.
