The Town of Oakville’s annual Clean Sweep is set for Friday, April 20. The popular event is a great way to get together with friends and family for a quick cleanup of litter around your school, business, or neighbourhood. It only takes 20 minutes and makes a big difference in keeping Oakville beautiful!
“Oakville residents take pride in our community’s natural beauty,” said Mayor Rob Burton. “Taking part in Clean Sweep is an excellent way of ensuring our town continues to be one of the most livable and green places to live.”
Register online at oakville.ca to get your free bags courtesy of GLAD, along with gloves to help with your cleanup. Make sure to choose your pick-up location and date, and your supplies will be ready for you at one of the following locations: Town Hall, Iroquois Ridge Community Centre, Glen Abbey Community Centre, River Oaks Community Centre, Sixteen Mile Sports Complex, or Queen Elizabeth Park Cultural and Community Centre.
While cleaning up, remember to take pictures or videos and share them on the town’s Facebook or Twitter page. After the cleanup, email us at email@example.com to let us know how many large bags of garbage you collected. Use the hashtag #cleancanadatogether to join others nationally in caring for our environment.
Recycle what you can and place your GLAD garbage bags out on your regular garbage collection day. Make sure you use the clearly marked GLAD garbage bags to collect litter on Clean Sweep day as only these GLAD bags will be collected by Halton Region free of charge above the three-bag limit.
If you can't clean up on April 20 or want to do more, participate in the Oakville Community Centre for Peace, Ecology and Human Rights’ Earth Week Clean Up, taking place at over 40 nature sites in Oakville on Saturday, April 21 from 9 to 11 a.m. Register at 905-849-5501, firstname.lastname@example.org or visit www.oakvillepeacecentre.org.
Over the coming months, the town will be completing several of its own spring clean-up programs including: street and sidewalk sweeping, roadside and retention pond litter collection, boulevard and median cleaning, graffiti removal, and loose leaf collection in designated areas which begins the week of April 16.
