It was a full house for the public reception and Inaugural Council meeting for the 2018-2022 Oakville Town Council last night at Town Hall.
The Mayor and 14 Town and Regional Councillors were officially sworn into office by the Honourable Mr. Justice David A. Harris. Reverend Jeff Ward, Rector at St. Cutherbert Anglican Church and Regional Dean of Trafalgar, delivered the invocation.
Mae Scatliff, attending on behalf of Oakville MPP Stephen Crawford, and MPP Oakville North-Burlington Effie Triantafilopoulos joined in the ceremony and brought greetings on behalf of Premier Doug Ford and the Government of Ontario.
Mayor Rob Burton delivered his fourth inaugural address that spoke to the community’s many accomplishments over the years.
“We have much to be proud in Oakville,” said Mayor Burton. “We have slower and controlled growth, double the amount of community facilities, the healthiest finances in Ontario, increased greenspace and more.”
He touched on how our town’s vision and core values will allow our community to successfully meet the challenges we face going forward.
“There are new heights to reach and challenges to overcome,” he said. “As we begin this new term of Council, we are committed to serving our community and continuing on our path to become Canada’s most livable town.”
At the meeting, the 2019 Council and Standing Committee schedule of meetings was approved, and Council appointments to the various advisory boards and committees were announced. Review the December 3, 2018 Council agenda for more information.
