On Monday night Council approved a staff recommendation for the town to plan and host the community’s 2018 Canada Day celebration.
The evening event will take place at Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park and will feature small-scale activities and entertainment and a focus on the fireworks display.
“Marking our nation’s birthday with a spectacular fireworks show continues to be an important family tradition in Oakville,” said Mayor Burton. “Residents look forward to this celebration, and we’re very pleased to be able to offer it again this summer.”
In past years, the Bronte BIA has been the lead organizer of the event with the town providing support in the form of fee waivers, grants and in-kind contribution. However, during the 2018 budget process, the Bronte BIA Board of Directors announced that it would no longer deliver the event without additional funding from the town.
The cost for the town to deliver the 2018 Canada Day event is $90,200. Staff will report on the future of its event support as part of the 2019 budget process.
