Canada Day returns to Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park

Thu, 02 Jun 2022

Featuring family-friendly activities, entertainment, food trucks, and fireworks

The Town of Oakville invites residents to mark Canada Day with a family-friendly evening of fun activities, entertainment, food trucks and fireworks on Friday, July 1. After being held virtually over the past two years, Canada Day is returning to Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park beginning at 6 p.m.

The event will feature stilt walkers and activities for families to enjoy, including arts and crafts, sports activities and giant-sized board games like checkers, chess and Jenga. There will also be culturally enriched activities run by local performing and creative arts groups, a designated area for residents to take a moment to reflect on what it means to be Canadian, and performances by Singalong Tim & the Pacifiers, Balletomane Dance School, and Oakville born and raised band, The Lonely Hearts.

At 8 p.m. a bag piper and drummer will welcome dignitaries and Sheridan College’s Indigenous Engagement Director Elijah M. Williams will deliver the land acknowledgement, followed by the national anthem performed by Jakin Cadieux accompanied by Ray Tiberia. The fireworks display will begin at 10 p.m. weather permitting.

Attendees are encouraged to take the pay-one-way Oakville Transit shuttle to and from Bronte GO Station (everyone under the age of 12 ride free). Shuttle service begins at 5:30 p.m. and runs every 10 minutes. The last shuttle to the park leaves Bronte GO Station at 9:30 p.m. Return shuttle service to Bronte GO Station will begin once the fireworks display has ended. Road closures will be in effect and there is no event parking available onsite.

For more information including the full event schedule and road closure information, visit our Canada Day page.

Quote

“Council and I are excited to welcome friends, family and our community back to our in person Canada Day event this year. We continue to make great strides in working together to support an inclusive, diverse, and equitable community, and I look forward to coming together to celebrate our nation’s holiday. I also encourage residents to take a moment to reflect on what it means to be Canadian and how each of us can contribute to a community where everyone feels a sense of belonging.”

Mayor Rob Burton
