Early this year, the town advised residents that the laneway off Deer Run Avenue was not a public road as it crossed private land owned by Heusel Construction. Signage was installed to advise drivers that the laneway was only for use by emergency vehicles. The town has now determined that physical barriers need to be installed to restrict access to this route until a permanent solution is determined.
This closure will remain in effect while the town undertakes a mandatory environmental assessment (EA) review to determine a recommended solution for this emergency access route. This process will get underway at a public meeting to be held on November 26, 2015, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Otello's Banquet & Convention Centre — 2273 Royal Windsor Drive.
A full range of options will be considered during this process from installing a cul-de-sac to building a permanent roadway connecting Deer Run Avenue to Winston Churchill Boulevard.
Please be assured that the closure will not impact emergency services. The Oakville Fire department will still be able to provide access to this route in an emergency and both Halton Police and ambulance services have indicated to the town that they can provide service to the subdivision through the existing roads. Other municipal and regional services such as garbage collection and snow removal will also be accommodated on existing roads.
