Temporary road closures and restrictions during RBC Canadian Open — July 16 to 24, 2016

Tue, 21 Jun 2016

The RBC Canadian Open is coming to the Glen Abbey Golf Club July 18 to 24, 2016

This world-class event, which is part of the Triple Crown of national golf championships, will host many of the best golfers in the world. As with any event this size and this popular, certain accommodations must be put in place to ensure the well-being of the attendees and the surrounding neighbourhood. Here are some things you as a neighbour should know:

Lane closure – Dorval Drive northbound

Saturday, July 16 to Sunday, July 24

New this year, a five kilometre run has been added to the festivities on July 16. The run will take place entirely on the Glen Abbey Golf Course. However, the northbound curb lane of Dorval Drive will be closed from Leewood Drive to Monastary Drive from 5 a.m. July 16 to end of day on July 24 to accommodate shuttles and vehicle traffic to and from the site. Free, secure bicycle parking is available at the bike corral on the day of the run and throughout the tournament. For information on the run, visit rbccanadianopen.com

Lane closure – Upper Middle Road eastbound

Monday, July 18 to Sunday, July 24

The eastbound curb lane of Upper Middle Road will be closed from Dorval Drive to the Smith Triller Bridge throughout the event to accommodate bus shuttle drop off and pickup for event volunteers. Volunteers will walk from Upper Middle Road via Abbeydale Court and Golfview Court to access the back entrance to the course.

Full road closure – Dorval Drive northbound

Saturday, July 23 to Sunday, July 24

To promote a safer pedestrian exit from the event, there will be a short-term closure of the northbound lanes of Dorval Drive from North Service Road to Old Abbey Lane from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday July 23 and Sunday July 24. There will be a signed detour route along Nottinghill Gate northbound to Upper Middle Road. This road closure is a result of safety concerns raised on the last day of the 2015 event as spectators exited the course in mass numbers after an exciting tournament finish.

Parking restrictions

Monday, July 18 to Sunday, July 24

The town will enforce temporary parking restrictions on roads near the Glen Abbey Golf Course during tournament week to ensure local traffic and emergency vehicles can move safely through the neighbourhood.

Visit the RBC Canadian Open parking restrictions page for more information.

Free, secure bike parking

You can safely store your bike at the secure bike valet right across from the Glen Abbey Golf Course at the corner of Dorval Drive and Old Abbey lane, free to those visiting the 2016 RBC Canadian Open. The area will be supervised from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the 5 kilometre run on July 16 and 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the tournament from July 18 to 24.
