Town Hall, Council Chamber
To improve service to the community and strengthen its ability to respond to infill construction concerns, the Town of Oakville is updating its maintenance of property regulations through a an updated property standards by-law and the introduction of a new lot maintenance by-law.
The by-laws are being presented to Council on June 12 for approval.
The current Property Standards By-law 2007-100 has been amended several times since first being adopted by Council in 2007.
Significant changes to this by-law include new requirements for construction fencing around all construction sites in town—excluding interior only construction and those exempted by the Chief Building Official.
Introducing a lot maintenance by-law will allow enforcement staff to address community complaints about long grass and other nuisance property issues more quickly. This will be done by reducing the required property standards order compliance timeframe from a minimum of 19 days to a lot maintenance compliance timeframe of five (5) days or less.
The decision of Planning and Development Council is final.
