This past summer we experienced record high water levels in Lake Ontario which caused damage to several shoreline parks across Oakville. The lake level has now dropped and the town will be undertaking a video assessment of the municipal shoreline to investigate any damage that may have occurred due to high water.
Between mid-November and mid-December, the town will be using a small Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV or drone) to take videos of the municipal shoreline. The flight and operations will be handled by DroneBoy, a Transport Canada and NavCanada approved commercial drone operator. The drone being used is a very small, quiet, battery-operated vehicle with an onboard camera.
Weather can impact the operation of the drone so it is difficult to pinpoint an exact date, time and location of the work. The drone will fly during daylight hours only and at a low level over the water, close to the shoreline.
