Notice of study commencement for town-wide parking management

Fri, 18 Jun 2021

The study

The town has initiated a town-wide parking management study to develop a strategy to meet parking demands while supporting and promoting good urban design, enhanced economic development and encouraging alternative forms of transportation.

The town is expected to grow rapidly as part of the Province's broader growth management framework. Parking management plays an important role in the town's plan to manage current and future urban mobility. This study will collect data such as vehicle ownership, parking utilization, parking duration, and parking space size requirements to determine parking demand for various communities within Oakville.

This study will be informed by town policies, plans and strategies such as the Livable Oakville Plan, the North Oakville East and West Secondary Plans, and the Transportation Master Plan. This town-wide study will also build upon previous parking studies completed for North Oakville, downtown Oakville, Kerr Village, and Midtown Oakville for both residential and commercial areas within the town. For residential areas, this review includes the residential permit parking program, Zoning By-law parking standards, and partnerships to further encourage transportation demand management. For commercial areas, this review includes existing commercial parking programs, Zoning By-law parking standards for main street commercial and mixed-use developments and addressing future commercial parking supply and operations.

The residential areas component will be completed by the end of 2021. Supplementary data collection will be conducted in February 2022 to ensure that this component was not affected by 2021 province-wide travel restrictions. The full study is expected to finish in April 2022.
