You are invited to attend a Special Public Meeting of Council and provide input on the Official Plan Review. Municipalities are required to update their Official Plans at least every five years, in accordance with Sections 17 and 26 of the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. P.13, as amended.


The Town of Oakville is starting a review of its Official Plan and is seeking public input to identify areas of the plan which may require revisions through the review process. Section 26(5) of the Planning Act requires Council to consider any written or oral submissions on the Official Plan Review.

What is an Official Plan?

An Official Plan is a legal document containing goals, objectives, and policies intended to guide land use, development and growth in a municipality.

Oakville’s Official Plan is comprised of the Livable Oakville Plan, which pertains to lands south of Dundas Street and north of Highway 407, as well as the North Oakville East and West Secondary Plans which apply to the lands north of Dundas Street and south of Highway 407.

Why are we reviewing it?

The town is required, under Planning Act legislation, to review and update the Official Plan every five years. The Livable Oakville Plan was adopted by Council in 2009 and approved by the Ontario Municipal Board in 2011. The Ontario Municipal Board approved the North Oakville East Secondary Plan in 2008, and the North Oakville West Secondary Plan in 2009.

It is now time for the town to review these documents to ensure that the policies are consistent with the latest Provincial policies, support the town’s strategic goals, and reflect the vision and needs of the community.

Any interested person may speak at the Special Public Meeting of Council and/or make written submissions advising Council of requested revisions.

Should you wish to speak at this meeting, you may register with the Clerk’s department by noon on May 11, 2015. Alternatively, the Chair will invite anyone wishing to speak in the audience to come forward at the appropriate time during the meeting.

Written submissions must be forwarded to the Clerk's department for receipt no later than noon on May 11, 2015.
