The Town of Oakville has an ongoing commitment to ensuring that our playground structures comply with the most current CSA safety standards. All of our playgrounds are inspected by our staff on a monthly basis.
Playground surfacing
The town is moving away from pea gravel (also known as metering stone) and sand for our standard playground surfaces. Most new playground sites will include engineered wood fibres as our standard resilient surface. These are not simply shredded trees/bark, but are specifically designed and tested for the playground industry. Wood fibre surfacing is recognized as an accessible surface across North America. Surfacing suppliers include Fibar, Zeager, and Fibertop.
Proposed playground rehabilitation projects
The Parks and Open Space department replaces a number of playground structures on an annual basis.
