About planning studies
- Projects that look at a geographic area or a topic that affects the whole town.
- Are led by Policy Planning staff with help from staff in other departments.
- Usually involve public engagement and undergo technical review.
- Are presented to Council and implemented through official plan policies or zoning by-law regulations.
Following the approval of the Livable Oakville Plan, a number of studies commenced to implement the official plan. Some of these studies have begun, while others are scheduled to begin shortly.

Growth management and forecasting
Oakville’s urban structure is the town’s growth management plan. It has and will continue to provide an enduring framework for accommodating growth in Oakville.
The town is currently working with Halton Region on creating new Joint Best Planning Estimates (JBPE) for the town, and the urban structure has been a significant input to development of the JBPE.
