Policy statement
The Town of Oakville (Town) is committed to applying a climate lens to its infrastructure, community planning, civic operations, and levels of service. This approach is intended to foster a sustainable and equitable environment for the community and residents of Oakville.
Purpose
The Town is committed to reducing its contribution to climate change by lowering energy use and greenhouse gas emissions, while adapting to existing climate impacts. Guided by national and provincial climate frameworks and scientific assessments, the Town will integrate sustainability principles across operations, planning, and community engagement. Staff are expected to support Council’s Climate Emergency Declaration through actions that:
- Improve municipal operations;
 - Engage the public in climate solutions;
 - Embed climate considerations in asset management and planning;
 - Increase ambition and transparency;
 - Track and report progress.

The Town’s Energy Conservation and Demand Management Plan sets targets to reduce GHG emissions by 30 per cent by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Participation in the Taskforce on Climate Related Financial Disclosures framework ensures transparent climate-related financial disclosures.
Scope
This policy applies to all staff and those hired to do work on behalf of the Town.
