The by-law regulates the use of parking lots owned or leased by the Town of Oakville, except for parking lots in a municipal right-of-way or a parking lot located in a park.
Restrictions under the Municipal Parking Lot Maintenance, Use and Protection By-law
include, but are not limited to:
- Placing equipment or materials of any kind in a parking lot;
- Placing or maintaining a newspaper box or a disposal bin in a parking lot;
- Closing a parking lot in whole or in part;
- Undertaking any activity that negatively impacts the use and function of a parking lot;
- Causing any material to be thrown, piled or placed across or in a parking lot;
- Depositing snow or ice in way that interferes with the safe passage of vehicles or pedestrians within the parking lot;
- Allowing any part of a tree, shrub, sapling, hedge or any other plant to extend over or onto a parking lot;
- Pulling down, destroying, defacing or in any way interfering with any municipal infrastructure, including but not limited to, any post, surveyor's mark, benchmark, traffic sign, name sign, sign board, or regulatory sign that is affixed, or placed in a parking lot.
Non-compliance with the by-law may result in penalties under the Administrative Penalty By-law 2021-038.
