Mayor Burton’s statement on remains at B.C. residential school

Monday, May 31, 2021

Following the discovery of the remains of 215 children at the former Kamloops Residential School in B.C., flags at all town facilities have been lowered to half mast. This is a tragedy that has affected hundreds of families to whom I express my condolences.

Tomorrow marks the start of National Indigenous History Month and this is a tragic addition to that history for which we should all pause and remember these children, their families, as well as the survivors of the residential school system.
