Online survey opens April 17 followed by public open house opportunities in May

The Town of Oakville is looking to better understand how the community uses parks, recreation and culture facilities and libraries and is developing a Parks, Recreation, and Library Facilities Master Plan to guide the current and future direction of these spaces.

Over the next few months, the town is engaging the community and gathering demographic data and growth forecasts, participation and usage levels and trends and best practices to help shape the master plan. The town recognizes these community parks, recreation and culture facilities and libraries will need to continuously evolve over the next 30 years so it can continue to provide quality services that Oakville residents value.

Online survey opens today

The community is invited to take the town’s online survey now open until May 31, 2023 to share what programs and services are important to them and what they envision the town providing when it comes to community parks, recreation and culture facilities and libraries into the future. The 10-15 minute survey will also ask community members to share how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted how often and the way they participate in recreation and culture and library programs and services.

Residents can also share their feedback at the following open house opportunities online and in-person in May to hear from the community:

Quote

“Our parks, sports fields, community centres, and libraries are places where we belong, gather, and connect with each other. They are a big part of what make Oakville a thriving community. As the town grows, these spaces need to continue to evolve to meet the needs and wants of our community. The Parks, Recreation, and Library Facilities Master Plan will guide how we provide the community facilities that allow us to be part of the community and feel connected with one another. It is important that Council and staff hear from the community on what matters to them and their families!”

- Mayor Rob Burton

Background

  • The Town of Oakville and Oakville Public Library have worked together to achieve community objectives through coordinated planning. The 2012 Master Plan and 2017 Master Plan update have guided our community investments and service strategies. These plans have helped to support the development of the Oakville Trafalgar Community Centre, the upcoming Sixteen Mile Community Centre and Library, new playgrounds, splash pads, sports fields, expanded parks, and more.
  • The Parks, Recreation and Library Facilities Master Plan will strategically guide the future direction of open spaces, parks, recreation services, programs, facilities, libraries and required amenities over the next 30 years. The plan will assist the town in making strategic decisions that ensure a healthy community, improve quality of life, and encourage a strong economy and sustainable environment.
  • The Plan is in its early stages of being developed. The town is currently asking for community input through a 10-15 minute online survey, public open houses, and stakeholder focus groups. Feedback from these activities will outline priorities to be brought forward to Council for review later in the year.
  • In 2023, the Town of Oakville is updating the following Master Plans to help guide the town over long-term.
    • Parks, Recreation, Culture and Library Facilities Master Plan
    • Fire Master Plan
    • Transportation Master Plan
The Town of Oakville’s strategies and various master plans help move the town’s priorities and goals forward.
