Oakville ready to support provincial action on childcare safety

Statement from the Mayor

On behalf of Town Council, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and community members affected by the tragedy in Richmond Hill during this difficult time.

This incident has understandably raised concerns among families throughout our community about the safety at childcare facilities. As a parent who had kids in the childcare system, I share these same concerns. 

I welcome Education Minister Paul Calandra’s action and leadership in seeking changes and measures to better safeguard children and child-care providers. The Ministry is responsible for the oversight and regulation of the childcare sector. The Town of Oakville is ready to work collaboratively with the Province to support and implement any new measures introduced through legislation or regulation. 

We remain committed to doing everything in our power to ensure the safety and well-being of all our residents.
